Why having twins is well worth it.

Eleven years ago my husband and I had the biggest shock of our lives and life was never the same again.

I have been meaning to write all this down, since one day in July my life completely changed forever. I had a routine appointment for a scan at the hospital, the 4th one since I found out that I was pregnant and I was only 13 weeks. The reason for so many scans is another story that I will come back to. My husband and I went into the small room and the Sonographer began the ultrasound, shortly after starting she stopped and excused herself saying she had to get some advice.

Well having been here before both my husband and myself thought the worst and the next few minutes were the worst ever. Little did we know it was not bad news but double good news. We were soon told that we not only had one healthy baby but two.

We sat in the waiting room in complete shock to see the Consultant. I think the healthcare assistant took pity on us as we were presented with a scan picture proving that there were two in there. They looked like they were in bunkbeds!

After all the shock had subsided we were over the moon, but also concerned. We had been told that they were identical as the membrane made a 'T' shape on joining the placenta which indicated a shared placenta.

The first person we told was my best friend Chris as she knew how worried I was about having scans and the reaction I got over the phone was screaming and excitement.

Well that was day one of the rest of our life. I will continue in my next blog.
